About

Sol Onyx is a Brisbane based four piece merging the ancient with the heavy. Drawing from Celtic mysticism, tribal rhythm, and raw emotional weight, the band exists in the space where atmosphere and impact collide.

Their music is built on ritualistic grooves, ethereal melodies, and a primal pulse that moves between tension and release. Sol Onyx does not chase trends or spectacle — their sound is immersive, intentional, and grounded in feeling rather than excess.

Aqua Atra, the band’s debut EP, explores themes of pressure, surrender, and transformation. It captures moments of stillness and force, darkness and clarity, drawing the listener inward rather than outward. Sol Onyx create music to be experienced — not just heard

Line-Up

Naomi grew up surrounded by music. Her mum's a piano teacher, so the keys were basically her first toy. She spent years on violin and flute too, even sat all the exams for them, but piano always felt like home. Then she got into more contemporary stuff and fell in love with the bass guitar.

By her late teens she was already gigging, holding down the bass in a jazz band. But she wanted more than just playing, she wanted to sing. So, she jumped into a covers band as lead vocalist, handling keys and guitar too. That band kept her on stage for a few good years, and after that she did some duo gigs, really sharpening her skills across instruments and just loving the connection with crowds.

She went on to get her Bachelor of Music and focused on teaching for a while, which she still loves. But honestly, the stage kept calling. When she linked up with the rest of the Sol Onyx crew, it felt like the perfect fit. Finally, a chance to write and perform original music that really means something to her. Now she's pouring all that experience, heart, and multi-instrumental magic into the band, and it's been a blast watching it come together.

Tyler got into music in his early teens, taking proper lessons to build a solid foundation. Through high school, he was already out there playing in bands like Dose of Apathy and Pandemic, jamming and collaborating with other local acts around Brisbane. Those early connections naturally led to co-founding the black/death metal band Kyzer Soze, which became his main focus throughout his twenties. With Kyzer Soze, things got serious they toured all over Australia, dropped an album, demos, and several singles, and even supported big national and international names on some killer bills. It was intense, aggressive, and full-on. These days, Tyler’s pouring his energy into Sol Onyx, and it’s a real shift for him. Where Kyzer Soze was all about density and raw power, Sol Onyx is about holding back focusing on atmosphere, emotional depth, and that “less is more” approach. The music’s built to linger, hit you in the gut, and sink in slowly, letting the feeling come first before the full picture clicks.

It’s been a deliberate move toward something more restrained and resonant, and Tyler’s stoked to be exploring this new side with the band.

Mick has been behind the kit since he was 14, jumping at every opportunity he could. School bands, garage jams, even a church band just to play as much as possible. By 16, he’d already landed the lead drummer in the A.C.T Senior Concert Band, touring Australia and then heading all over the U.S., which ignited the chase to peruse a serious career in music.

That drive paid off big-time. For over 25 years, Mick’s been a recording and touring drummer, with one of the biggest highlights being his long run as the backbone of Australia’s beloved Celtic rock band Claymore. He powered their sound internationally for more than 20 years, hitting stages around the world and helping cement the band’s reputation as a premier act in the scene. Along the way, Mick owned and ran the Melbourne Drum Studio, sharing his knowledge and passion with students until he relocated to Brisbane in 2024. These days, he’s the powerhouse driving force of Sol Onyx, bringing that same energy and experience to our heavier, atmospheric alternative world. Mick proudly endorses Sonor drums, Vic Firth sticks, Soultone cymbals, Reactorz, Porter & Davies, and Attack Drumheads. It’s been a hell of a ride from those early day tours to building a legacy with Claymore and now laying down the foundation for Sol Onyx and still loving every beat of it.

Bass, Vocals

Brad’s the guy holding down the low end and adding those gritty backing vocals for Sol Onyx. He picked up the bass during the COVID lockdowns when everything was shut down. It became his lifeline and the thing that really sparked his musical fire. His first major gig was with Kyzer Soze at the Necrosonic Music Festival, and that set him on the path to a more concept-driven style. These days, his influences run deep: Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, and some extreme metal. He’s all about those atmospheric, groove-heavy bass lines that push the song forward without stealing the show. Supportive, moving, and always locked in. Brad’s a fingerstyle player at heart (though he’ll grab a pick when the moment calls for it), and he loves dialing in clean, modern metal tones that let the bass sit right up front. His rig? Multi-scale basses through a Darkglass Anagram and AO900 pure thunder without the mud. Brad’s stoked to bring that locked-in energy to the stage and helping shape Sol Onyx’s dark sound.
